I WANT TO BE LIKE CHRIST

by Elder Perry Bacon

Have you ever heard it said by someone, "I want to be like Christ"? You probably have. Many have spoken these words. And just like with other desires, we probably started out not knowing what it would take to be like Christ. Being like Christ is the most precious desires a Christian can have. We sing songs, pray prayers, recite poems, give testimonials all filled with the Christ Like desire.

But what does it take to be like Christ or what does it mean? A search on the Internet or a dictionary definition may say Christ likeness is having qualities like Jesus Christ, being kind, forgiving, sincere or a caring and accepting person. This sounds very good but I believe there is more. Much more than I want to say here and now.

I believe our savior Jesus made it most clear when he said to his disciples, "follow me" (Matthew 4:19), or when he said, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself . . ." (Matthew 16:24). There are many other examples we can get from the Scriptures but I'd like to encourage you to exercise your own Christ likeness by following II Timothy 2:15 that says, "Study to show thyself approved unto God".

Let's dig deep.
