DEMONSTRATING THE CHARACTER OF CHRIST

by Min. Carlous Price

Jesus is the uncreated God the bible says that within him dwells the fullness of the Godhead; it's God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. They function as three and one at the same time. He is the Alpha and the Omega and the beginning and the end that means it starts with him and it ends with him. We have an opportunity to have relationship with the Christ and this should not be taken lightly. We are to seek Him with a whole heart with the goal to get know Him better. We must develop a better understanding of who He is and how he works on our behalf.

The bible also as says that we are to be imitators of God and as He is in Heaven so are we to be on earth. This may feel like a hard task to fulfill, but it is not unattainable we have Christ as our example. We are ambassadors of God; an ambassador understands that he has authority to represent a specific nation this is the same case with us, we have been given authority to represent the kingdom of God. We are a holy nation separated for the purposes of God with a goal to establish His agenda on earth. We have a great responsibility to demonstrate Christ’s character to others.

The same compassion He demonstrated this is expected of us we are to treat people like we want to be treated. We rejoice with those who rejoice, and we weep with those who weep. Being quick to forgive is Christ-like character. The bible says if we confess our sins, he faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanses us from all unrighteous (1 John 1:9). Jesus had a conversation about forgiveness with Peter concerning how often he should forgive his brother and he asked was seven times good enough, and Jesus replied no it should be seventy-seven times. We can’t continue to hold on to old wounds we must chose to forgive thus we free ourselves and we free others.

Jesus said I only say what I heard the Father say and I only do what I saw the Father do based on this in order to be conformed into Christ’s character we have to be more obedient. Daily devotional is important which includes reading the word of God. We must make time to get alone with God so that we can hear what He has to say and then carry that out. We need to sit in His presence until we are transformed to be more like Him. This an essential for every believer.

The fruit of the spirit is another dimension of Christ likeness that we must demonstrate (Galatians 5:21-23). The love of God must be shed abroad; the bible says that they would know us by our love one to another. Love casts out all fear. Love does not behave rudely, it does not envy, it is not easily provoked, endures all things, rejoices in the truth, and hopes in all things. Love never fails. The bible says that the joy of the lord is our strength and that weeping may endure for a night, but joy will come in the morning. We are to walk in the peace/Shalom of God. The bible declares that the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and by His stripes were healed. He paid a great price for our peace. Colossians 3:15 says let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace and be thankful.

Long-suffering is not an easy fruit to demonstrate. The bible says we are to walk worthy of the vocation that we have been called to with lowliness, meekness and long-suffering. Oftentimes we are being processed for the promise. Being kind and good to one another is not too much to ask for no one wants to be around someone who is unkind or who do not treat them well. Faithfulness is essential for all firstly God expects us to be faithful full to him. The bible says without faith no man please God. Gentleness is important as seek to build healthy relationships. Self-control requires patience, discipline and the crucifixion of the flesh.
